Umm, Hello…

A fresh start is never a bad thing.  A fresh start is exactly what this is!

The original Solitary Views was started way back in 2006 – when the blog scene really started to blossom.  Back then, the blog was hosted on Blogger before it was owned by the internet giant Google.  Solitary Views was a concept that I had a hard time letting go, yet a concept that I never really fully understood.

The website suffered probably hundreds of design changes from myself and probably a dozen or more scrub, wash, and restarts. Perhaps it was a testament of my inconsistencies, It was something I could never be satisfied with no matter how I tried.

In the beginning it was therapy for me being able to speak my mind and have a place to publish.  In it’s end it was ultimately abandoned but hard to let go of.   When I pulled the final pin on Solitary Views, I felt a void – something was missing…

Even though I am not the best or most reliable writer. I feel comforted knowing I have a place on the internet that is mine. A place that allows me to communicate directly in a purely raw and genuine format. There are many directions that I want to take this new place….

I will spend some time explaining the new name later.

It’s doubtful anyone is reading this yet, starting from scratch means no readers! That is something I will hopefully build over time…

Cheers to a new beginning.

Jenna Marbles Laughs off the Trolls

On March 20th, I posted about Social Trolls because I think it is an uneasy burden given how technologically advanced we are.   Well, I wanted to do a follow up post.

Jenna Marbles, YouTube star, and host of the YouTube 15 on Sirius XM (airs Fridays at 6 pm & 9 pm ET on SiriusXM Hits 1, Ch. 2) posted a video in January where she reads mean comments about herself.  If you watch you can see how at times she shows signs of displeasure and her voice cracks up just a bit.

Good example of things that don’t need to be said, but are.  It’s not hard to simply not watch the videos if you are not a fan…

Don’t be a Troll! Watch the video below, she laughs a lot of it off, and the video is intended to give you a laugh too.

Social Media: Are you a Troll?

Social media can bring out the worst in people, in fact, there is no point sugar coating it… Some people are just argent shallow losers.

I sincerely hope that you are not one of them!

I like to think that somewhere, everybody has good in them. But it seems to be easy to suppress that good when hiding behind a device.

I’m not writing this because I’ve been attacked. In Fact I’m lucky and never have been. (Yet.) I am writing because others are being mauled. Have you ever scrolled through comments on news articles? For example, Somebody could have been killed in a car crash and there are a thousand people lined up to criticize the poor individual for something they have no clue actually happened or not. Eager to lay out blame and speculate on circumstances.

That’s just one example.

The city I call home has a Facebook page that was started by an individual. Its called Rant and Rave. Understandable that this may be a breeding ground for assholes. But there is a group of about 10 people (sorry lady’s, its all females) that gang up and comment on every post. Everything from declaring someones opinion to be ludicrous, attacks on people that disagree with what they say, to full on bashing anyone that posts almost anything. If you are not in their circle. You are a target.

They my friends are social trolls, the digital bully. And whats even sadder about the women mentioned above, Their age range I’m guessing is 25-65.

From what I can tell, this is simply a new aged form of hi tech bullying. It should not be misunderstood, some trolls are responsible for ending lives. I can recall two incidents, that made national headlines where young women had inappropriate pictures of them published online, and to make it worse, arrogant people hiding behind their computers bashed and belittled the girls. Not just a couple people, hundreds of people. Both committed suicide, and neither should have. People made them feel unwanted, disgusting, and hated.

There is a major problem in schools, but I am sure that is not news to you. The Bully has always been an issue. And some personalities just don’t allow that problem to be conquered. There always seems to be an excuse, bad upbringing, alcoholic parents, or learning disorders, amongst a host of others.

As mankind advances, kids and adults now have double the trouble, in person, and cyber attacks.

This has got to stop.

But alas, I do not think these trolls or bully’s ever will. Hatred breads more hatred.

This is now the new normal of the Internet, and always has been a situation of note since man became intelligent and invented the wheel.

We can only combat this with education. Teach people to avoid situations that put them in positions that put them within an attackers reach. Not a solution, but a way to limit abuse.

Sad right?

It doesn’t matter what you say on the Internet, somebody will have an opposing view, somebody will not be able to contain themselves. And somebody will attack you for your views. Some people are just assholes. Plain and simple.

Unfortunately, I believe there is no hope for the human race. Its a spiral until the end.

What ever happened to Moms shaking their fingers and saying:

“If you do not have anything nice to say, do not say anything at all!”

I welcome a discussion with you on this topic. Amazing things happen when intelligent conversations are sought. I don’t think we can solve the worlds problems, but maybe we can effect some real change in people around us.
